Dr. Hassan, LMFT

I am a Somali clinician, educator, and community advocate, and the founder of Hassan Counseling, dedicated to culturally grounded mental health care and storytelling. My work centers healing, dignity, and belonging for immigrant, refugee, and marginalized communities, with a deep commitment to honoring lived experience and cultural wisdom.

My clinical practice focuses on trauma, neurodiversity, and child and family mental health. I utilize a compassionate, integrative approach that includes play therapy, culturally responsive care, and trauma-informed practices to support clients in navigating complex emotional and relational experiences.

In addition to direct clinical work, I provide reflective supervision and consultation for clinicians, supporting their growth, cultural humility, and capacity to engage in meaningful, ethical, and sustainable practice. I believe that when clinicians are supported, communities are strengthened.

I am passionate about creating spaces of connection, resilience, and collective care while actively challenging stigma and expanding access to mental health support. Through my writing, leadership, and community engagement, I aim to cultivate healing-centered environments where individuals, families, and communities can thrive.

My Approach

My approach is compassionate, culturally grounded, and client-centered. I believe healing happens in safe, supportive spaces where people feel seen, heard, and valued. I integrate trauma-informed care, culturally responsive practices, and strength-based approaches with Solution-Focused therapy, Family Systems work, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to support meaningful change. I honor each person’s story and lived experience while centering dignity, resilience, and connection. My work includes neurodiversity-affirming care, play therapy, and collaborative reflection to meet clients where they are. Whether working with adults, children, or families, I walk alongside clients as they build coping skills, deepen self-understanding, and move toward empowerment, healing, and wellness.

Play therapy

Play therapy provides a safe, developmentally appropriate space where children can express emotions, process experiences, and build coping skills through creativity, storytelling, and symbolic play.

CBT and Mindfulness

Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy work together to help individuals build awareness of their thoughts and emotions, develop healthier coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change.
